What do we do?

Both Criminology and Sociology are real world disciplines interested in addressing real world problems. Criminology is interested in identifying the motivations and experiences of those involved and affected by crime. Sociology looks at broader global and social issues and thinks about how power, race, gender, religion, and issues of social justice are connected. You can read more about some of the leading research our staff have been involved in here.

What do our students do?

If you want to get a sense of what some of our students are doing, we have started to publish some of their excellent research on a dedicated website. You'll find undergraduate dissertations and some postgraduate research, too. It'll give you a sense of the many opportunities you'll have to explore your interests throughout your time with us. Watch that space because we are always adding new student work to the site.

Our students do a lot more than just write essays! They do write essays, but they also create podcasts, websites and blogs, and short videos. You can watch a range of video essays and short video assignments our Sociology students are doing here.
